Event Summary

From October 26 through October 29, Northern Michigan University’s Olson Library will host a temporary City of Marquette Clerk station set up in the main hallway next to the information desk. Operating daily from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., this pop-up location offers a convenient, on-campus resource for students and community members preparing for the upcoming November 3 General Election.

This initiative—created through a partnership between the city clerk’s office and library leadership—is designed to make election services as accessible as possible. Visitors can register to vote, update their local address, request or submit an absentee ballot, and ask election officials any questions about their voting status.

What You Can Do at the Station:

  • Register to Vote & Update Info: Register for the election or update your voting address. (Note: Because online and mail-in registration closes October 19, any registration after that date must be done in person with proof of residency. NMU students registering locally can generate an official address document directly through the "Voter Address Verification" tool on MyNMU.)
  • Absentee Voting: Request an absentee ballot or turn in a completed one. Returned ballots will be securely collected in official transfer containers and monitored by election staff.
  • Get Guidance: Speak directly with election officials to confirm your registration status or ask questions about voting options.

Important Note on Early Voting:

This station handles administrative support and absentee submissions, but it is not an early in-person voting site with ballot tabulators. Voters wishing to cast early tabulated ballots in person can visit the lower level of the Peter White Public Library between October 24 and November 1.

Students can check their voter registration status, view their sample ballot and find additional information about voting in Michigan at online Michigan Voter Information Center.

Community Partnership:

Organized through a joint effort between City Clerk Kyle Whitney and Library Dean Leslie Warren, this initiative aims to bring municipal resources directly to students—especially those navigating their first major election—eliminating transportation hurdles and helping everyone make a clear voting plan.
