Technology in the Library

Computers

The library's temporary location in Gries Hall has two public computer stations available to patron use. The computers are in our lobby area, room #22, on the ground floor. The Digital Media Tutoring Center is currently unavailable.

Computers give you the ability to access online databases and electronic library resources without an NMU login.

DVD/BluRay player

The library's temporary location in Gries Hall has one DVD / Blu-Ray Player in our lobby area, room #22, on the ground floor.

Headphones must be used and are available from the Circulation Desk.

Fax Machine $

The library's temporary location in Gries Hall has fax services available from our Circulation Desk in our lobby area, room #22, on the ground floor.

Laminator $

The library's temporary location in Gries Hall offers laminating services from our Circulation Desk, room #22, on the ground floor.

Cost: $1 per foot

Billable to university account or cash

Maximum item width: 24 inches

Laminator requires 15 minute to heat to proper temperature. To save time, call ahead and request preheating (906)-227-2250.

Microfilm/Microform Readers

The library's temporary location in Gries Hall has one Microfilm Reader equipped computer in the lobby, room #22, on the ground floor. Microfilm will only be available upon request, please see the Borrowing & Renewals page for instructions on how to check out items.

Microfilm/microform readers can read the following formats: microfiche, jackets, aperture cards, 16mm & 35mm roll film, opaque microcards.

Microfilm/microform readers can output to a variety of formats, including: jpg, tiff, pdf, up to 1200 dpi.  

Save to flash drive for free, send via email for free, or print (printing cost applies).

Monitors/Screens

The library's temporary location in Gries Hall has study rooms equipped with monitors. To connect your device to a screen - MirrorOp is available for NMU members or HDMI cords are available for checkout at Circulation Desk on the ground floor.

Please refer to instructions for reserving study rooms. Study rooms are limited to university members during fall & winter semesters.

Printer/Copiers $

The library's temporary location in Gries Hall is equipped with two HP black and white printers as well as a Xerox copier / scanner / color printer, all located in room #121, on the first floor.

All NMU students, faculty, and staff must have money in their NMU ID (WildCat Express Card) account to print on campus.

Non-NMU patrons can purchase a guest print card for $5 with a $3 printing credit. Additional funds can be added.

Scanner

The library's temporary location in Gries Hall provides the use of an overhead KIC scanning unit capable of scanning open-faced books, and an auto-feed Kodak document scanner in the lobby, on the ground floor. The Xerox, flatbed & auto-feed, scanner is located on the first floor in room #121

Virtual Reality

At the temporary location in Gries Hall, the library provides three Virtual Reality stations on the first floor, situated adjacent to the ASNMU Food Pantry along the Study Room Hallway. Equipped with Meta Quest 2 headsets, these stations are accessible for walk-in use during open hours. Wifi

The library's temporary location in Gries Hall offers NMU associated and guest WiFi for its patrons. If you have NMU credentials please follow these instructions to connect to NMU's WiFi. If you are a guest, without NMU credentials, please follow these instructions to connect to the guest WiFi network.
