Technology in the Library

Computers

The library's provides public computer stations for patron and community use. The computers are on the second floor of Harden Hall

Lobby Computers Having the following Software:

  • Windows 11
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Computers give you the ability to access online databases and electronic library resources without an NMU login.

DVD/BluRay player

The library's has one DVD / Blu-Ray Player near the media collection on the second floor of Harden Hall.

Headphones must be used and are available from the Information Services Desk.

Fax Machine $

The library has fax services available from our Information Services Desk on the second floor of Harden Hall.

Laminator $

The library offers laminating services from our Information Services Desk on the second floor of Harden Hall.

Cost: $1 per foot

Billable to university account or cash

Maximum item width: 24 inches

Laminator requires 15 minute to heat to proper temperature. To save time, call ahead and request preheating (906)-227-2250.

Microfilm/Microform Readers

The NMU Archives Reading Room, on the second floor of Harden Hall, provides access to microfilm/microform readers. 

Microfilm/microform readers can read the following formats: 

  • Microfiche
  • Jackets
  • Aperture cards
  • 16mm & 35mm roll film
  • Opaque microcards.

Microfilm/microform readers can output to a variety of formats, including: jpg, tiff, pdf, up to 1200 dpi. Save to flash drive for free, send via email, or print (printing cost applies).

Food and drink are not allowed in the NMU Archives Reading Room.

Monitors/Screens

The library's study rooms are equipped with wall-mounted monitors that patrons can connect to. To connect your device to a screen HDMI cables are available in the study rooms or for checkout at Information Services Desk on the second floor of Harden Hall.

Please refer to instructions for reserving study rooms. Study rooms are limited to university members during fall & winter semesters.

Printer/Copiers $

The library is equipped with two HP black and white printers as well as a Xerox copier / scanner / color printer, all located next to the Information Services Desk on the second floor of Harden Hall.

All NMU students, faculty, and staff must have money in their NMU ID (WildCat Express Card) account to print on campus.

Non-NMU patrons can purchase a guest print card for $5 with a $3 printing credit. Additional funds can be added.

Scanner

The library provides the use of an A3-sized flatbed scanning unit and an auto-feed document scanner as well as a Xerox flatbed & auto-feed scanner located on the second floor of Harden Hall

Virtual Reality

The library provides three Virtual Reality bays equipped with Meta Quest 3 headsets on the second floor of Harden Hall. These stations are accessible for walk-in use during open hours. Wifi

The library offers NMU SSO and guest WiFi for its patrons. If you have NMU credentials please follow these instructions to connect to NMU's WiFi. If you are a guest, without NMU credentials, please follow these instructions to connect to the guest WiFi network.

It is recommended to connect to the NMU_WPA3 network. You will need to provide your NMU SSO credentials to access this secured network.
