The Lydia M. Olson Library has opened its study rooms for open use! This means, that no check-in is required to access these rooms.

Our study rooms are located on the library's upper floor. All rooms offer a whiteboard and whiteboard markers. Select rooms contain a television with HDMI connectivity. We ask that you limit your use of a room to a 2-hour time frame.

Visitors are welcome to use the rooms for video/phone interviews, test preparation, job searching, or simply a quiet space to focus.

The Olson Library has reopened its doors to community members. We ask all visitors to remember the State and NMU COVID rules that continue to apply. 

To celebrate, we are offering free Community Borrower cards through August 20th. A Community Borrower card allows you to check out materials from the library. To view the details, read more about the Community Borrower card program.

Northern Michigan University's Olson Library is offering community residents free laminated copies of their COVID-19 vaccination cards through Aug. 20. 

Lamination may take up to 15 minutes, depending on whether the equipment needs to warm up. Patrons are welcome to leave the library after the copy is made, then come back later to retrieve it after it has been laminated.

Tune in to maximize your course materials in EduCat. We provide Leganto software behind-the-scenes to help provide the easiest access for students. ExLibris staff will share tips for building a list of course material, adding all types of content, and rolling it over to a future semester.

The Lydia M. Olson Library is offering a free service to help you preserve your COVID-19 vaccination record. After receiving your final shot (either the second Moderna/Pfizer shot or the single Johnson & Johnson shot), bring your vaccination card to Olson Library to make a laminated copy. We will copy your card and laminate the copy free of charge!

It is important to note that since it is unknown how the vaccination cards will be used in the future, including whether booster shots will be needed, we are not offering to laminate the original card.

Isabelle Ureel is a senior anthropology student and has her Honors Program capstone project exhibit on the Chocolay Bayou Nature Preserve on display at the library. Be sure to stop in and check out all of her hard work!

In collaboration with NMU's Women for Women student organization, the Lydia M. Olson library has established a display that highlights the significance of women's rights, civil rights, and female empowerment. This display contains a physical collection of book recommendations from the Women for Women organization. A virtual format of the display includes a personal interview with co-presidents, Hannah Mahn and Jenna Chappell.

Jakob received this award for his research on, "Making a New American Identity: The Associated Press and Nazi Germany, 1933-1938." under the instruction of Dr. Nick Dupras for NMU course HS390.

From April 12—18th, there will be free printing available for all students in honor of National Student Employment Week. The library, PEIF, and Jacobetti Complex will be participating in this celebration of student work as a sponsorship by the Dean of Students Office, Printing Services, and the Lydia M. Olson Library.

To print in either black and white or color, students will have to swipe their NMU ID and select their print job from the list, but no money will be subtracted from your account by any of the printers.
